


Joyce was born to Elmo Bell Jr. & Ursula Abercrombie Bell on October 5, 1952. In grade six, her mother moved to Galveston and she attended Ursuline Academy, an all girls’ Catholic school. Approaching her eleventh grade year, three Galveston Catholic High Schools consolidated to form O’Connell High School. Joyce was a 1970 graduate of O’Connell High School. She attended University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education; then she later attended University of Houston at Clear Lake where she majored in Educational Administration. She is the mother of one daughter, Ursula Katrease Nance-Hare, and the grandmother of Kierra (“K.K”) Nance and Kendrè Nance. The glow in her smile is because she is also the great grandmother of Reign Currie. After teaching for 36 years, in the city of La Marque, TX, where she resides, she is very well known in the community. She is also the author of four fiction novels, entitled, BAGGAGE, STAY IN YOUR LANE, THREE LITTLE WORDS, and DRAMA KING.
